1. Elastic Layer


An elastic layer is used underneath the carpet in some artificial turf systems made of rubber granulate and a polyurethane binder.


There are two main ways of making an elastic layer. Either it can be built on site (in-situ) where the rubber granulate is mixed with 8-12% polyurethane binder, or it can be made from pre-fabricated rubber mats.


Unlike other pads, the elastic layer does not shift underneath the surface or produce unwanted seams or cracks. While providing a consistent Gmax overtime, this 19 mm thick, moisture cured, polyurethane bound shock pad offers maximum flexibility and optimal shock absorbing properties.


微信图片_20180309114854.jpgThis system has proven over time that fields with the elastic layer shock pad are not only much more durable than fields without one, but also produce great ball roll and bounce and lower Gmax.



2. Asphalt


Asphalt is a thick brownish or black substance derived from the same crude oil which produces kerosene, gasoline and vinyl. It is literally scraped from the bottom of the barrel after all other petroleum-based products have been refined or processed. This substance is at least 80% carbon, which explains its deep black color. Sulfur is another ingredient found in the tar-like asphalt, as well as some trace minerals. It is primarily used as a sealant for rooftops and a durable surface for roads, airport runways, playgrounds and parking lots.


The tar from the crude oil is usually mixed with sand or gravel (often called aggregate) to form the finished product we call asphalt. The black tar forms a strong adhesive bond with the aggregate, which makes it durable. When used in road construction, asphalt is usually poured over a bed of heavier aggregate in a heated state, and then pressed into place by an extremely heavy steam roller. Once it cools to ambient temperature, it becomes sturdy enough for automobile traffic. Asphalt may harden even more over the years, but it still retains enough flexibility to accommodate natural variations in the roadbed


ormance of asphalt can vary widely depending on a number of variables that include the presence of moisture, temperature fluctuations, volume of traffic, and exposure to certain chemicals. Even varying asphalt ingredients can determine its durability.





1. Stabilizing Infill


1.1 Silica Sand (quartz sand)

Silica sand is one of the most common varieties of sand found in the world. It is used for a wide range of applications, and can be purchased from various suppliers throughout the world. Silica sand is used in industrial processing, to make glass, as fill, and to create molds and castings.


Sand is the general term for broken down granules of minerals or rocks, technically between about one-sixteenth of a millimeter to two millimeters in diameter, falling between silt and gravel in the spectrum of sizes. There are many varieties of sand in the world, each with their own unique composition and qualities. The white sandy beaches of iconic tropical destinations, for example, are made up primarily of limestone that has been broken down, while many black sands are either volcanic in origin or contain magnetite. Other sands have high levels of iron in them, and so are rich and yellow in color.


Washed and ground silica sand with diameter 0.5-1.0mm is perfectly used as stabilizing infill for the artificial turf.




2. Performance Infill


Although the infill plays only a minor part in the total costs of a complete artificial turf project, it is possibly the most important element. The quality of the infill is paramount for meeting the performance criteria of the pitch.


2.1 SBR

Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) is one of the most versatile copolymer rubber compounds. It consists of the organic compound styrene and the chemical budatiene, with the amount of budatiene usually being about three times more than the amount of styrene. SBR is a stable synthetic rubber that is resistant to abrasion. It is used in a wide variety of products, such as automobile tires, children's toys, shoe soles and even chewing gum.


SBR cut into granule with diameter 0.5-3.0mm is infilled in the turf installation. In this way the superior characteristics such as elasticity, weather resistance and extremely good aging properties are maintained.微信图片_20180309115059.png


No infill material has been tested as thoroughly as SBR rubber. SBR infill from scrap tyres has been the subject of numerous environmental and health studies worldwide concluding that there are no environmental or health risks connected with the use in artificial turf pitches.


99.5% of the performance infill is SBR.



2.2 EPDM

EPDM is an elastomer that is comprised of ethylene, propylene and diene, hence the letters that make up its name. The M in its name comes from its ASTM classification, which indicates that it features a saturated chain of the propylene type.


Depending on the brand of EPDM, the rubber can contain between 45 and 75 percent ethylene content. The higher the ethylene content, the easier it is to mix and load the polymers during development.


Some of the benefits of using EPDM in a wide range of applications include:

- Excellent resistance to weather, heat and ozone
- Excellent resistance to polar conditions
- Excellent resistance to steam
- Excellent electrical properties
- Compatible with alkalis, hot and cold water, ketones and hydraulic fluids


The size shall also 0.5-3.0mm, but the price is three times as SBR granule.
