Inferior artificial lawn is harmful to environment and human body

Artificial turf is gradually replacing part of natural turf due to its special excellent benign.

Currently, it has been widely used for children and adults for leisure and recreation of grasslands, parks and various sports venues, especially in school sports venues.

But is artificial turf really good for us?

The answer, of course, is no.

The volatile and "heat island effect" of toxic and harmful chemical pollutants in artificial turf materials has attracted wide attention to the atmospheric environment and the possible harmful factors of the human body.

1. Domestic situation of campus artificial lawn

At present there are more than 20 domestic artificial turf producers, production of artificial turf quality, cheap products, domestic knitting low-end industries developed at the same time, but the core material preparation of high-end industry blank, grass fiber from scale, equipment, technology, product quality, measures such as sales ability, the only a few of real power.

The high price of high quality artificial turf, many schools, have to from a few small cottage manufacturers of choose and buy cheap inferior products, or the winning vendors in order to obtain greater profits for the grass production and used inferior materials.

2. Structure of artificial turf

The artificial lawn consists of three layers of material.

The base layer consists of rammed earth, gravel and asphalt or concrete.

Above the base layer is a layer of buffer, usually made of rubber or foam plastics.

The third layer, also the surface layer, is the grass cortex.

According to the surface of the manufacturing, there are fluffy turf, circular circular curl nylon turf, leaf-like polypropylene fiber turf and nylon yarn.

3.Hazard identification of toxic and harmful chemical pollutants in the grass cortex

Artificial turf is made of polyethylene and polypropylene mixed materials, which can be woven to simulate grass leaves.

This kind of "grass" is laid vertically, mostly polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), as well as polyvinyl chloride and polyamide.

The leaves are green with natural grass.

Plastic synthetic materials contain a large number of chemicals known or suspected to cause health effects.

Manufacturers in order to improve or make up for the properties of plastic materials, adding additives to the raw material is to be able to make more new feature - the color of the imitation of natural grass, flame retardant, high temperature resistant, uv absorber, structure and wear resistance, etc.

However, it is often these kinds of additives that are so numerous, which, after improving and enhancing certain properties of the materials, become the main risk factors for the secondary pollution of artificial turf.

4.Hazard identification of rubber filler

The artificial lawn is used as a mat by adding a layer of recycled tyres with a diameter of 3 mm or more.

Sometimes the rubber is mixed with silica sand as a filler.

The most common synthetic rubber mainly composed of ethylene/propylene and styrene - butadiene, including adding different content of curing agent, filler, plasticizer and antioxidants, different manufacturers add formula is also different.

These filler particles can be airborne, inhaled, and can be brought into the house with clothing and exercise equipment.

The adult immune system is relatively mature and immune, and these small particles are just a bit of a nuisance for adults and don't affect their physical health.

The immune system of children is not fully mature, the resistance is relatively weak, and the pollutants emitted by rubber particles pose a threat to children's health.

5. Artificial lawn identification of soil and plant hazards

The use of artificial turf in the process may affect the very large ecosystem around it.

The man-made lawns are exposed to the sun, rain, and wind, and the harmful substances are dissolved in plastic and rubber, and the soil is polluted by natural precipitation, such as rain, into the soil.

The soil pollution includes changing the physical structure and chemical properties of the soil, affecting the absorption and growth of plant nutrition.

Activities affecting the microorganisms in the soil;

Destroy the ecological balance within the soil;

Harmful substances accumulate in the soil, causing excessive levels of harmful substances in the soil, hindering the growth of plants, and even causing the death of plants.

Harmful substances are also absorbed by plants and moved to the fruit, which can affect human health and feeding animals through the food chain.

In addition, the rubber packing of 25 kinds of chemicals and four kinds of metal (zinc, selenium, lead and cadmium) can be released into the water, and because the artificial lawn cannot absorb or filtering rainwater, effective filtering chemicals without vegetation, the harmful material with natural rainfall cause the pollution of surface water and underground water.

The most direct pollution is that the artificial lawn belongs to non-biodegradable materials, and after the aging of 8 to 10 years, it forms tons of high polymer garbage.

Although it can be recycled, more artificial lawns are simply buried.

6. "heat island effect" of artificial turf

Artificial lawn flat bed structure is composed of rubber, concrete or asphalt, basic cannot have the effect of water conservation, so can't reduce the surface temperature, and its thermal capacity is small, resulting in surface temperature is higher than the air temperature, especially in a closed stadium this problem is more serious.

At midday in the summer, there is a noticeable heat distortion on the artificial turf field.

Through the contrast can be found under the condition of the high temperature of 30 above, the average surface temperature of natural lawn is lower than the temperature 2 and 3 , the artificial turf surface temperature is higher than the air temperature is 6 to 11 , and the temperature rise.

The surface temperature of artificial grass is much higher than that of natural grass.

Using thermal infrared satellite imagery and geographic information systems, it is found that many of the hottest places in the city are artificial turf fields.

This is not only harmful to people in sports activities, also exacerbate "heat island effect" - as a result of the black artificial surface (such as roof and asphalt) can absorb heat, causing hotter than the surrounding area of the city.

7.Artificial grass can hide more germs

Artificial lawn crevices are poorly ventilated, air humidity is a hotbed of bacteria.

The bacteria content of the artificial lawn can be directly felt through the following experiment results.

In addition, the amount of bacteria in the fillings containing sand and rubber compounds is 50, 000 times higher than the pure rubber filler.

These disease-causing bacteria can be brought into the air with the wind of the dust and the movement of students, which can cause inhaled allergic musty.

Patient chest tightness, cough, fever, fatigue, joint pain, etc.

In particular, it is a great threat to the physical health of physical teachers who have been leading students for more than three hours a day on artificial turf.

Inferior the volatilization of harmful substances in the artificial lawn on atmospheric pollution all countries are actively looking for innovation, along with our country part of the rise of powerful enterprise owns the intellectual property rights of our country artificial turf quality will be along with the vigorous development of global integration when our sky bluer, the water is more green!
